Picture of a friend

I met Heinrich Josef Düll, in art 'Heinz', in Rome in 1975 where he had a small flat near Piazza del Popolo and after a short time our acquaintance developed into one of close mutual friendship and esteem.

At that time Heinz lived in Munich where he worked in an architect’s office as well as painting and working hard to make his art known. Like almost every citizen of northern Europe, following the traditional path of his ancestors, he fell under the spell of Rome, of the Roman culture and of the Italian coast. In 1976 I invited him to Vitorchiano in northern Lazio where I had a house.

He accepted my invitation almost unwillingly and on condition that he would stay at Vitorchiano only for a few hours, because for him Italy meant Rome and the coast. What was to be a trip of only a few hours became instead a lifetime’s stay. He lived in my house for a certain time, then he bought a house for himself not far from Vitorchiano. Our friendship, our trips, our work relationship became so close that we agreed to exhibit our paintings together in the same galleries.

There, in the country near Viterbo, Heinz created his realm of life, art and work. He moved there definitively and, as his works shows, he penetrated deeply into the landscape that little by little had become a treasure-trove for his art. His culture, and his great sensibility in sharing in the life of the local people was the source of the deep bonds of sympathy and popularity that is still shown today in the affection and enthusiasm for this association dedicated to his memory.

The "Düll Memorial Cultural Association" is our homage to you, dear Heinz, lifelong friend.
